Release 5 – Inspiration with Rowena

Hello friends! Rowena here today I have a couple of projects showcasing some awesome new goodies. So here we go!

For my first card, I created a birthday card using ‘Adventure Ahead’ stamp set. This set is fun for any occasion. The set came with two cute hot air balloons and tiny clouds.

For my card I used the smaller image, I simply colored the hot air balloon with copics. I then fussy cut the image and adhered it with foam tape.

For the background I used a cloud washi tape to create a sky background. I splattered black ink and a few sequins to add interest.

To finish the card I stamped a happy birthday sentiment from ‘The Necessary One’. This set is packed with all sorts of sentiments. It’s a definite must have 😉 That finishes the first card.

For my second card, I created a congratulatory card for my dear friend who is expecting their second child.

I did a watercolor background to create my scene. I stamp the little family from the ‘Avocado Family’ stamp set. I colored the images with copics and adhered it with foam tape.

I stamped the sentiment from the same set with versafine onyx black ink. I splattered perfect pearls solution to the background and added a few sequins to finish the card.

All stamps will be available for purchase on April 1. I hope you all got inspired and I cannot wait to see all your beautiful cards.

Release 5 – Inspiration with Rosali

Hi, Rosali here! Welcome to another day full of inspiration with Krumspring Stamps’ new release which will be available from April 1st!

As many of you know, I had a challenge up on Krumspring’s blog during “Spring Festival” with a rainbow colours theme. And what can I say, apparently I am still hooked on rainbows, hah! They just make me happy!

For this first card I made, I used some colourful ink pads and stamped the beautiful hand-lettered “Congratulations” sentiment repeatedly on white cardstock. The sentiment is from the new stamp set called “The Necessary One”-you know, because it really has all the most necessary sentiments in it! ☺
To make the card really cheerful I wanted to put this cute guy putting his hands in the air from “Avocado Family” on top of my stamped background. I know it’s technically an Avocado but I think it can be whatever you want depending on how you color it! To me it is just a happy round critter with a cute belly, hehe! I stamped the image on vellum, heat embossed it in black and added very little colour with Copic Markers.
On the second card I made, I created a rainbow of colours by applying Distress Inks on some inexpensive watercolour paper with a round blending tool. I masked of a diagonal line each time and used five different colours of Distress Inks. This was totally inspired by Laura Bassen who is the queen of rainbow ink blending to me! ☺

For the sentiment, I used “The Necessary One” again, stamped the “Happy” with Versafine Onyx Black Ink and put some black embossing powder on top for a little bit of dimension.
For the butterfly I used white embossing powder and double heat embossed the image. Which means I stamped it with Versamark and after the heat embossing I stamped the image again on the exact same position as before (on top of the embossed image) and then sprinkled on another layer of embossing powder.

To give the butterfly some depth on my card, I glued the middle part down with liquid glue and popped the border of it’s wings up with foam tape. To finish the card off I added some sparkling clear sequins in various sizes.

I hope you like the cards I have shown you today and I can’t wait to see what all of you will be creating with this release! See you next time! ♥

Release 5 – Inspiration with Erica

Hi there, Erica here! Today it’s my turn on the blog to show you what I have done with the newest release from Krumspring Stamps. I was so excited when I opened the package with these and immediately I fell in love with the Dahlia stamp! Hardly a surprise, I guess. Anyone who knows me crafty wise knows that I love flowers and I bet you thought I’d go for that Dahlia stamp first. Hmm? Who did? Come on, show of hands. I know there must have been at least one! I was one of those so you aren’t alone, lol.

Well, I thought I’d try and not be totally obvious and a one-trick-pony, so I decided to forgo the flower stamp for my first card no matter how much I wanted to use it. Instead I went for the BUTTERFLY. Something I couldn’t resist doing still is making a few cards with the same design, just different colours or techniques. I think that is such a great way to show the versatility of a stamp. There have been many, many times where I have seen someone use a stamp set in a totally unexpected way and it’s really blown my mind so I try my best to show each stamp from many different perspectives and using different techniques myself. You never know who it might inspire and that’s the whole point, isn’t it?

Ok, enough jibber-jabbering about things not card-making related now. Let’s dive into the cards I have got to share with you today, shall we? I started by cutting out two stitched rectangle panels in Strathmore Bristol Vellum cardstock, I always use this when I’m going to watercolour with my Zig markers which is what I planned on doing here. Placing the butterfly where I wanted it on the panel I also added the sentiment ‘Happy Birthday’ using THE NECESSARY ONE. Before stamping anything, I dusted my panels with my anti-static tool, then I grabbed my very old and not very juicy Memento Black Tuxedo ink. I had to stamp three times to get a solid black outline, thank goodness for the MISTI!! I really need to either get a re-inker or a new ink pad, stat. Once I had the image and the text nice and solid, I quickly stamped the same thing once more time with the VersaMark ink and I used clear embossing powder, which I set with the heat gun.

These two panels looked exactly the same at this point and I decided to do one in yellow/teal/green shades and one with pink/magenta/purple. I find it so relaxing to colour with Zig markers and water colours in general. Swish, swish, swoosh.. bliss! Once I was happy with the colouring, I set them aside to dry. Which took no time at all as the sun was out! Yay!

I decided to add some gold splatters on both panels using the Champagne Gold colour in the Gansai Tambi Starry Color palette. On the green one I managed to make a big blob boo-boo and then the colours ran from the butterfly when I tried to fix it… gah!! I toyed with the idea of adding a few sequins to hide the glaring blob but re-considered as it really did just draw the eye to the mistake as it’s in an awkward place.

Once all the colouring and splatters were dry, I mounted the panels on a lovely linen textured card stock which I tried colour matching as close to one of the butterfly colours as possible. The card base I cut to leave around 1/2cm frame on each side, what’s the point of using nice card stock if it doesn’t show, right?

The third card is a bit different technique wise as I had to stamp the butterfly and sentiment on a piece of paper, scan it in and then print it on card stock with my laser printer so I could foil it. I chose to do the panel in black to really make the foiling stand out. The foil I decided to use is a gold and pink ombré one from Heidi Swapp and I ran this through my Minc machine but unfortunately the foil didn’t go on completely flat and as a result, it looks a bit cracked in places.

This panel I also mounted on a linen textured card stock, in light pink for this one to soften up the look a bit. For this card I did get a few sequins out as there was too much black space. Splattering gold water colour on this felt like too much of a gamble as the card stock is plain card stock and not water colour paper. I used Metallic Rose Gold from Pretty Pink Posh sequins in three different sizes and adhered these with glossy accents.

For this card I decided to use the smaller of the two hot air balloons from ADVENTURES AHEAD stamp set and create a cloudy sky where they were floating away.

My first idea was to heat emboss the balloons and then do ink blending over them with one colour and add a second colour by dotting it on using an ink blending brush. I started with yellow distress ink and so far so good. Then it all went downhill… I thought purple would be a nice contrasting colour over the yellow but it just made it look dirty and horrible. #EpicFail.

I tried saving it by adding Zig markers over this and it actually worked, not perfectly but good enough to save the balloon from the bin. The underlying distress inks blended out a bit when I was colouring over it with the markers so it is darker than it would be without the first layer. I will not be doing this again, it will either be ink blending OR Zig markers… Well, anyway, after having had a rather steep learning curve with the first one, the second balloon was an absolute breeze.

Fussy cutting images that are heat embossed is tricky, it’s easy to break the embossing lines or get really sharp angels that don’t look quite right. I tried filing these down a bit with a nail file but it didn’t work that well. I know, right? This card was giving me all sorts of attitude!

My trials were not over either, no ma’am. Deciding to do a blue distress ink blended background which I was then going to cut out the cloudy sky with using an MFT cover die, I had another ‘oh, you have GOT to be kidding me!’ moment. Yep, it was so not my day. I lost control over my brush I was using to splatter water over my finished background piece and it got soaked! It was a good job I had my towel on hand to basically throw on it and desperately dabbing up the excess water! Honestly, I was close to giving up on this altogether at this point.

Once the background had been diecut, it didn’t look terribly awful after all, so I went ahead and assembled the card. For the card base I used bright white linen textured card stock to give the clouds a bit of interest. The balloons got adhered using different height foam tape and then I stamped the sentiment ‘Let’s fly away’ from the YOU MAKE ME FLY stamp set on a small banner and adhered that too.

For finishing touches I added sky blue sequins a little bit all over the place.

And that, my friends, was it! Ok, so it was a bit of a drama getting all the bits and pieces done and avoiding craft-astophies (craft related catastrophes) took more time that I wanted but next time I’m sure this card won’t take all that long. If it does, I will take it as a sign from the cosmos that it’s not that great of a card and I shouldn’t make any more! LOL!

Happy crafting and I hope you like the cards!

Hugs from Erica

Release 5 – Inspiration with Sharna

Hello! Sharna here with a card for the new release!

I just had to use this balloon as soon as I saw it. Its a dream of mine to fly in one someday! We have a new balloon festival by me so I’m hoping this year is the year!

I used lots of distress inks on today’s card. The balloon itself I used distress inks in Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade & Wild Honey and watercolored with them. The background I blended with peacock feathers using a blending foam. A bold black sentiment & a pop of clouds finish off my design!

Release 5 – Inspiration with Maria P

Hello Crafty Friends and Krumspring Fans,

Maria here, it’s time for a new Krumspring Stamps release and here is what I came up with.

For my first card, I used the awesome “Spread your wings” Stamp Set.
When I thought about I need a butterfly Stamp Set, Maria sent it to me. That’s telepathy.
I took the big butterfly Stamp to create my own background using a Copic friendly dye Ink. Then I colored all butterflies with my Copic Markers.
I stamped the Sentiment on a piece of pink Cardstock, then heat white embossed and diecutted.
Then I mounted the background on the cardbase using dimensional foam tape and added the Sentiment. I embellished the card with some clear Sequins.

For my second card, I used three different Stamp Sets = “Adventures Ahead”, The Necessary One” and “You make me fly
First I made my own cloud background using a Selfmade Stencil, a Mini Ink Blending Tool and Distress Inks. Then I stamped the balloons and the bear on a piece of white cardstock, then heat white embossed and colored with Copic Markers.
After fussy cutted I mounted all pieces on the cardfront using dimensional foam tape.
Then I mounted the Cardfront on the white cardbase using dimensional foam tape too.
A little bit of twine and some Pink and Yellow Sequins finished the card

Have a lovely day!

Love, Maria

Release 5 – Inspiration with Maria K

Hello there! Maria her today, sharing my cards for the release.

How awesome was Dana’s cards yesterday!? Swoon – I am so in love!

I have a whole bunch of cards, so you better be prepared for a colour party! And you will see the stampsets “hidden” (displayed lol) in my photos.

Spread your wings! For these two cards, I used the big butterfly from “Spread Your Wings” + the big Congratulations stamp from “The Necessary One”. I supplied some graphic shapes – triangles and circles – from “Geometry” and “Happiness Overload”.

To make this butterfly, I stamped the image with black memento ink, and then using my MISTI, used a clear glitter embossing powder on top. I coloured it using my Zig markers.

This Avocado Family is such a happy bunch. This mama is gently rubbing her tummy, aaaaw 🙂

For the background, I channeled my inner Sharna, and used Distress Inks to create the blurry watercolour look. It was a little difficult, but I like the end result.

How about some Spring Feeling? I continued playing with Distress Inks for the Dahlia card. It did not turned out how I envisioned at all lol.

I have really used my Zig Markers a lot this month! Playing along The Daily Marker 30 Day challenge. So much fun.

I also used my Zig Markers for the other flower power card. I used the “For My Sunflower” stampset and then added the butterfly and text from “Spread Your Wings”.

Adventures Ahead! I used text stamps from “The Necessary One” (which you cannot live without as the name says ha ha) and hot air balloons from “Adventures Ahead”.

I also did a Hot Air Balloon banner, hanging in my craft room – will show that one later.

I embossed the dot from “Geometry” and then did some inkblending for the background. I really like how this card turned out.

Did you make it to the end? Lol, I don’t know how to cut things short apparently.

Have an excellent sunday!
Release 5 will be for sale Saturday April 1st at 9am UTC +01 🙂

Release 5 – Inspiration with Dana

Hello, Krumspring friends!
It’s Dana here. Welcome to the first day of the April 2017 release post!
Today, I have 4 cards to share with you. Let’s get started!

For the first card, I featured Adventures Ahead stamp set and The Necessary One stamp set. I love new sentiment stamp set in particular because it is so versatile!

I started by stamping all images using distress inks (Antique linen and Tattered rose) for no-line coloring. Fire hot air balloon is from *Adventures Ahead stamp set* and tree image is from *Geometry stamp set*.
I then added color to the insides of the stamped lines using Mijello Mission watercolor paints. I’d like to show hot air ballooning in the cherry blossom season on this card, so I watercolored cherry blossoms over the trees.
With stamping sentiments from *The Necessary One stamp set*, I finished off this card.

For my 2nd to 4th cards, I tried mass-production. I’ve always played with one design-one card rule since I started cardmaking but I felt that time was coming to try something new! I guess the spring season makes me to do that 🙂

To start, I heat embossed the flower image from *Dahlia stamp set* onto the watercolor papers. Instead of the same design and same sentiment, I used different embossing powders and coloring techniques.
From left to right, I used

  • Clear embossing powder + distress ink blending + much water,
  • White embossing powder + distress ink blending + a little bit water for shading,
  • Sparkle embossing powder + distress inks blending + Zig markers for shading, white acrylic paint for splatters.

Next, I die cut circles from white card stocks to make windows. I then stamped sentiment from *The Necessary One stamp set* and created sentiment bars with glitter washi tapes matching with background colors.
I mounted window panel to the Dahlia watercolor panel using foam adhesives. I glued them again on the A2 white card base. To finish, I embellished sequins to each card.

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

Love and hugs,

A fond farewell to Anna

Hi peeps

Wow, March has been a crazy and fun month! Today I have some sad news though, because it is time to say goodbye to an awesome team member. Anna has been creating cards with Krumspring Stamps since October 2016 and she was the first one I did a collaboration with.

I am so happy to have had Anna on my team for a limited time and wish her all the best 🙂 I cannot wait to follow along her colourful adventures on her blog and instagram.

Please leave Anna some love and enjoy all her amazing cards she has made with Krumspring Stamps!

Aaaand you know what this means! – There is an empty spot on the Krumspring Dream Team 😉 I wonder who is going to fill that one?

Thank you for all your awesome work and beautiful cards Anna!
Big hugs
