Colourful triangle backgrounds with Rosali

Hi, Rosali here!

Today I want to show you two ways to make a coloured background the star of your design! I’m sure you all know how Maria’s stamp line started with her drawings of triangles and they are still some of my favorite images from her stamp designs! I was very excited when I held the “Awesome Triangle Wizard” background from the latest release in my hands for the first time and because I like it so much I chose it as my focus for this blog post!

For card no. 1 I use the ink smooshing technique. Which means, I smooshed some Distress Ink minis on a piece of laminated cardstock (you could also use a craft mat or an acrylic block), spritzed it with water and then tapped the heat embossed background panel into it several times holding it at different angles.

I dried the paper in between and tapped some more. After that I coloured some of the triangles with the leftover ink and a small brush. This method was inspired by a video by Kristina Werner, one of my favorite crafty Youtubers ever!

To keep the whole background visible I stamped my sentiment “You Are Awesome” from the same-named stamp set on vellum. A few sequins on top-finished!

On card no. 2 I tried out colouring with coloured pencils on black cardstock, something I wanted to do since I got my pencils! I saved up for a set of Luminance pencils earlier this year and they are supposed to look great on dark cardstock! 🙂

To get an idea of where to colour I stamped the center part of “Awesome Triangle Wizard” using a white pigment ink. In hintsight I would have used a second generation impression or a darker ink as some of the white ink showed through where I didn’t wanted it in the end. To fix it I went over these areas with a black marker, problem solved!

I chose the beautiful big “Happy” from “The Necessary One” and the small “Birthday” from “Monkey Madness” for my sentiment. I kept it in simple black and white to avoid drawing attention from my pencil colouring.

The triangle background took me about two hours to colour but all the different colours created a pretty unique look, don’t you think?

I hope you have an amazing day! ♥

Release Inspiration with Rosali

Hi, Rosali here!
How are you today? I hope your day is a good one!! As I type this and look back at the cards I created with all the new stamps I can’t help but smile-this is just such a happy, summer-y release! ☺ I guess that’s why I chose some bright colours to go with the new stamp images!
I have three cards to show you today and they are all quite different from each other but I hope you’re gonna like them all. Now let’s get started! This is my first card:

Just one single stamp set can be more than enough to create a card-especially if it’s a clean and simple one with a graphical design like mine!
I stamped the fun circle image from “You Are Awesome” in four different colours across the borders of my die cut panel. For the sentiment I chose “You are going to rule the world” in that beeeeautiful new font!! Can’t tell you how much I love that font, hah! To finish off the CAS design I added some of the little star images and put a dot in the center of each one with a pearl maker pen. You could also use Nuvo Drops or Perfect Pearls instead.

Now onto the second card! Honestly, this is my favourite … but let’s not tell the other cards, okay? 😉

I stamped and heat embossed the new “Awesome Triangle Wizard” background onto watercolour paper and put some watercolour on top. I chose blue as a complementary colour to make my mainly yellow “Funky Pineapples” really pop! For the pineapples themselves I used Distress Inks and a very loose watercoloring technique with two layers of ink. Love how it turned out! As I send out mostly birthday cards I chose the small “Happy Birthday” from “Monkey Madness” as my sentiment. It has the perfect size if you don’t want to draw attention from your focal image!

For my third card I of course had to use one of the adorable gorillas from “Monkey Madness”! I am determined to get better at no-line colouring so that’s what I did! I used a very light dye ink for stamping and then Copics as my colouring medium.

On the background panel I stamped “Oh yes!” from “You Are Awesome” repeatedly in a light blue ink and then used die cuts to create a little scene on the front.
Thanks for reading all the way, you are awesome!! ♥

I found a photo online of a pixelated version of The Good Dinosaur (have you seen the movie? It is so good!) and immideately knew I had to combine it with the Caveman stamp from For My Caveman. This is honestly one of my favourite cards ever 🙂

I hosted a stamping event in March where Tanja from HappyHillDk made this Pacman game! I just had to replicate it myself 🙂

This is just so awesome! I love how Rosali kept the card clean and simple to really make the figure pop!

You cannot look at this card and not smile 🙂

Natalie always thinks outside the box. She says about this card: “I wanted to do something slightly different and I used the stamp as the grid lines for some hand-stitched embroidery. Cutlery Holders with Rosali

Hi, Rosali here!

Today I have a special project to show you! As you might know I am mainly a cardmaker when it comes to crafting but once in a while I can’t resist to make something else out of pretty stamps and paper! ☺ And since Easter is coming up very fast with family gatherings and dinners I decided to make a little table decoration, cutlery holders to be specific!

Download this tutorial as a PDF, by clicking here.

This is the design I came up with:

I am gonna try and guide you through the process of making these step by step.

  1.  Cut down a piece of paper in the size of 7 1/8” x 7 1/8” (square). I would recommend picking a sturdier paper (min 160 lb) as people are gonna wanna pick the holders up and take the cutlery out. I knew I wanted to watercolour on mine so I used a mixed media paper (300 g/qm, equals 200 lb).
  2. You need to make three score lines on your square. One at the bottom, 2” from the corner. The other two scores lines need to be 3 1/4 “ from the left respectively right corner. I took a picture of the measurements for you to make it clear:
  3. After the scoring you can decorate your paper however you like! I heat embossed some stamped images on the backside of the paper (I used the backside of my mixed media paper because it had a smoother surface, which makes heat embossing easier). I mainly stamped on the three scored flaps and left the backside rather plain. I used “One Triangle at a Time” for two cutlery holders and a dot stamp from “Happiness Overload” two create a Polka Dot pattern on two other holders.

After heat embossing everything in white I used spring-y yellow and light green watercolour paints to colour the whole outside part and also the visible inside part of the cutlery holders. On the backside I added a triangle heart from “Happiness Overload” and a sentiment from “The Necessary One” in green metallic embossing powder.
  4. If you use a bone folder to round the three flaps a little bit towards the inside you get more room “inside” the holder for the cutlery to be in. Don’t glue the right and left flap together too tight. You won’t need any glue on the bottom flap if you stuck it under the other two flaps.
  5. Now you can put pretty stamped images on top of the cutlery holders. I chose the beautiful flower from “For My Sunflower”. I colored each with Copic markers using Y21, Y26 and YR24 for the petals and some green shades for the middle part. I also added highlights with a white gel pen.
  6. To finish my design off, I put a circle of vellum behind each sunflower and heat embossed “celebrate” from the “Spread Your Wings” stamp set in white on black cardstock and mounted everything together with foam tape for a bit of dimension.

Here are the finished cutlery holders-with enough room in them to put a small paper napkin inside as well!

Happy spring! ♥

Release 5 – Inspiration with Rosali

Hi, Rosali here! Welcome to another day full of inspiration with Krumspring Stamps’ new release which will be available from April 1st!

As many of you know, I had a challenge up on Krumspring’s blog during “Spring Festival” with a rainbow colours theme. And what can I say, apparently I am still hooked on rainbows, hah! They just make me happy!

For this first card I made, I used some colourful ink pads and stamped the beautiful hand-lettered “Congratulations” sentiment repeatedly on white cardstock. The sentiment is from the new stamp set called “The Necessary One”-you know, because it really has all the most necessary sentiments in it! ☺
To make the card really cheerful I wanted to put this cute guy putting his hands in the air from “Avocado Family” on top of my stamped background. I know it’s technically an Avocado but I think it can be whatever you want depending on how you color it! To me it is just a happy round critter with a cute belly, hehe! I stamped the image on vellum, heat embossed it in black and added very little colour with Copic Markers.
On the second card I made, I created a rainbow of colours by applying Distress Inks on some inexpensive watercolour paper with a round blending tool. I masked of a diagonal line each time and used five different colours of Distress Inks. This was totally inspired by Laura Bassen who is the queen of rainbow ink blending to me! ☺

For the sentiment, I used “The Necessary One” again, stamped the “Happy” with Versafine Onyx Black Ink and put some black embossing powder on top for a little bit of dimension.
For the butterfly I used white embossing powder and double heat embossed the image. Which means I stamped it with Versamark and after the heat embossing I stamped the image again on the exact same position as before (on top of the embossed image) and then sprinkled on another layer of embossing powder.

To give the butterfly some depth on my card, I glued the middle part down with liquid glue and popped the border of it’s wings up with foam tape. To finish the card off I added some sparkling clear sequins in various sizes.

I hope you like the cards I have shown you today and I can’t wait to see what all of you will be creating with this release! See you next time! ♥

Spring Festival Challenge 3 – Rosali

Hi, Rosali here!

Welcome to another day of Krumspring Stamps’ Spring Festival! As you might already know we have a challenge theme and inspirational project for you on every day during this week! So, let’s get started! 🙂

For my challenge, I picked a RAINBOW COLOURS theme! There is just something about combining all rainbow colors that makes projects look super cheerful, don’t you think?
If you are anything like me, you might need a little reminder which colours you can find in a rainbow … Here they are again:

  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Indigo
  • Violet

For the challenge, you can use the colours in that particular order or you can just use them all somewhere on your card / project. You can pick pastel shades or bright tones! I chose to go with bright rainbow colours in no particular order … And this is my card:

To colour the Toucan from Krumspring’s “Tou-can Do It” and the beautiful flower image from “For My Sunflower”, I used my Copic markers. For the flowers, I went with parts of the rainbow order but mixed it up a bit. To create the light blue ‘sky’ background I took a pigment ink and did some inkblending on the cardstock-which I haven’t really tried before with that type of ink but since it worked very well I will definetely do it again in the future!

On the Toucan image I used all rainbow colours as well, and some dark gray / black. I googled pictures of these birds before I started colouring, and used them as a reference. There are Toucans in a lot of different colour variations, it’s amazing!
To finish off the colouring I added some dots with a white gel pen.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with for the rainbow colours challenge!! ♥

Release week inspiration with Rosali

Hi, Rosali here! Welcome to another day of Krumspring release week!

I have to say, I had so much fun inking up the new stamps that I made two cards right away!
For the first one, I picked the You Make Me Fly stamp set! As I have several friends who just built a house or moved to a new house I wanted to make a card I could send to one of them. Here it is:

I stamped the cheerful balloons and the house on watercolour paper and embossed them to make colouring super easy! Then I used a few of my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and a water brush for colouring. After everything was dry I added polka dots to the balloons with a white gel pen! I also created a little background scene with hills and clouds. I used some die-cut repositionable labels and light Distress Inks to blend the ink onto the paper (since I used watercolour paper ink blending was super easy)! For my sentiment I used a die-cut piece of vellum instead of cardstock so that you can still see the beautiful balloons on the background! Lastly, I added a little heart above the sentiment to make the card complete! ☺

For my second card, I used the You Pixelate Me stamp set. It might look like a plain set at first but it really is super versatile and gives you so many possibilities to be creative! You can colour in a shape or word that you see in the squares or you can make a ‘Tetris card’ for someone who likes video games! I think I will make a crossword out of the squares for my next card! But for this card I went with the first possibility and coloured in a big heart with my Spectrum Noir sparkle pens and some gray watercolour:

I combined two of the sentiment stamps from the new For My Sunflower set so that it says “You bring out the best in me”! I thought it fitted perfectly because the pink colouring brings out the heart in that field of squares! ☺ Added a few sequins and my CAS card was finished!

I have to say, I had so much fun inking up the new stamps-I think you can use them all for so many different occasions! Which stamps sets are your favourites from this release? I would love to hear from you in the comments! ♥
