Using Patterned Paper in your Cardmaking with Natalie

I started my papercrafting journey with scrapbooking. All those pretty papers and dimensional embellishments sucked me right in!

In more recent years I’ve also developed a real love-affair with stamps and cardmaking, but ironically it’s only just dawning on me now that I can actually combine the two ideas together! I can make cards using stamps as well as my scrapbooking supplies!

Once again I couldn’t help but start creating my new set of cards with those Funky Pineapples, and after colouring them in brightly I wanted some equally fun embellishments to compliment them.

I selected some patterned papers in pineapply colours (yellow, orange and green) – using one for a background layer, and a few other thin strips to add some interest. I topped it off with a shining gold flair button which was the perfect finishing touch.

My second card features the cute little gorillas from the Monkey Madness set. I was inspired by a card by fellow Dream-Teamer Rowena who had her gorillas holding balloons. I thought that was such a cute idea and I wanted to do something similar. Instead of stamping balloons I simply set my waving gorillas against a background patterned paper that includes a cluster of balloons in just the right spot!! YAY!

I also used some other embellishments from the same scrapbook collection to finish off my card, and it makes it so much more textural and dimensional than usual. I love it!

My last card was a stroke of inspiration when I caught sight of some fabric feathers in my stash, and I immediately imagined turning the circle wreath from the You Are Awesome set into a dream-catcher!

I started my card by stamping the circles at the top in two layers. The first is in white embossing, and was a little too subtle, so I did another layer with my favourite gold glitter embossing powder. I added the same gold to the ends of my feathers to make sure they would coordinate before hanging them off the dream-catcher with some pink embroidery floss.

I’m quietly very happy with how these cards turned out, and how they’ve combined my two favourite papercrafting disciplines. I definitely need to do more creating like this!

You Are Awesome

Release week inspiration with Natalie

I’m in love with the new release stamps from Krumspring this month. My absolute favourite has got to be the Funky Pineapples set and I immediately started thinking about all the possible projects I could make! Did you know that pineapples are a symbol for hospitality and welcome? I don’t know where I learned that fact, but it’s what inspired me to use them as a starting point on the ‘Welcome to 2017’ title page for my Project Life album!
Umm….. yes…. I really am that far behind!!

I stamped a few of the pineapples onto watercolour paper and embossed them in glittery gold. I figured that was fitting for pineapples! I painted them in bright colours before cutting them out and using them as the focal point on my title card.

I mixed in a few of the other stamp sets on this card too. I wanted to create an impression of a wreath (sticking with my welcoming theme) so I stamped the big circle frame from the You Are Awesome set in green, and then augmented it with some of the little leaf shapes from the set too. I finished off the embellishments with the bigger heart from the Monkey Madness set, stamped onto patterned paper with the same glittery gold embossing.

My big idea for this opening page in my album was to have a photo of each of my kids, and match them up with a corresponding card where they had journalled their hopes and prayers for the year ahead. I created my set of cards by carefully lining up a couple of rows of the pattern from the Awesome Triangle set and once again used the same gold embossing powder.

Of course, I’ve only got 2 out of my 4 children that can write (yes, I’m counting my yet-to-be-born baby as the 4th!), but the 3rd one was happy to scribble away on his card anyway, and I think that captures the moment just as well!

Anyway, this page has got me feeling pretty satisfied that I’ve finally put a title page on my album! And it also feels good to use all of the new release stamp sets on one project, but keep it cohesive by using a few simple tricks like the same materials and colour scheme.
Have a great day!!
xx

Today we have a bunch of cards highlighting the You Pixelate Me set!

Maria

I found a photo online of a pixelated version of The Good Dinosaur (have you seen the movie? It is so good!) and immideately knew I had to combine it with the Caveman stamp from For My Caveman. This is honestly one of my favourite cards ever 🙂

I hosted a stamping event in March where Tanja from HappyHillDk made this Pacman game! I just had to replicate it myself 🙂

Rosali

Rosali is a genius! Micki Mouse – It’s perfect 🙂 She combined it with Star Power. Perfect cards for so many occasions and of course – children!

This is just so awesome! I love how Rosali kept the card clean and simple to really make the figure pop!

You cannot look at this card and not smile 🙂

Natalie

Natalie always thinks outside the box. She says about this card: “I wanted to do something slightly different and I used the stamp as the grid lines for some hand-stitched embroidery. The possibilities are endless with this and I had lots of different design ideas before I settled on this very simple heart shape! “

If you do not already own this stampset – it is on sale by 20 % until May 18 at midnight !

Thank you for stopping by – I really hope you are enjoying this spotlight 🙂
